The key point is that you should want to lose fat – not necessarily lose weight. A strong healthy body will help to lower body fat levels and will also look better. Weight loss with no change in fitness or muscle mass will not lead to sustainable fat loss. A fitter body is able to burn stored body fat and muscle burns energy, even at rest, so that should be everyone’s aim. If you only judge success or failure by how much weight you lose, unfortunately you may be setting yourself up for failure.
A membership will give you access to the pool, gym and group fitness classes, but unless you are highly motivated and can keep on track on your own, you may want to consider one of the options below that will help you to lose fat and shape up.
The best thing about weight loss is that if you do the work – YOU WILL GET RESULTS. The key is focusing on what you need to do to lose the weight – not on weighing yourself every day. How your clothes fit is a much better indicator of reducing fat than what you weigh.

Please also remember that when you start exercising you will become heavier. Increases in muscle mass, blood volume, bone density, connective tissue and glycogen storage in muscles, among other things, will all make you heavier – but that is a good thing! A fit person who is carrying a little extra weight is much healthier than someone who is lean but unfit. The aim must be to create an ENGINE that burns faster so you can still enjoy food and stay at a weight that you can maintain and be happy with!
