At Oceana we pride ourselves on being Hobart’s friendliest club. Our members are all ages, shapes and sizes and if you come in and have a look around you will see for yourself that Oceana is a place where you will feel comfortable. It is important that you do that – come in and have a walk around and see if you feel comfortable. Like all public places, all health clubs have a different feel and cater for different clientele.
We also have a focus on coaching and instruction rather than just access to a facility.
There are plenty of ways to exercise and there are plenty of clubs out there to choose from but you need to ask yourself what it is that you really need from a club. Most clubs have similar gear and programs but it is the intangible things that make the real difference and that is where Oceana is way ahead of the rest.
You don’t need expensive clothing or shoes, or have a background in sport. However as long as you have some loose fitting comfortable clothing you will be fine. If you are worried about starting out on your own – join up with a friend so you can keep each other company in the early stages.
We also know that those who exercise with a partner or in a group, not only attend more regularly, they get better results. Our goal is to help you to do safe and effective exercises and to help you develop the habit of regular exercise so that you can reach your health and fitness goals.
We also understand that becoming a member at a health club might seem intimidating to some with all those “Fit” people. Well it is not like that at all. Please remember that everyone has to start sometime and being surrounded by other like minded people might be what helps you to finally develop the exercise habit.
Individualised Programming
Our approach is focussed on assessing where you are at with activities of daily living ( things you have to do all day) and then providing you with a program of exercise that is suited to your age, fitness level, interests and most importantly your goals. Not everyone has the same goals and our assessment process is individual in every sense of the word.
Functional Training
While maximum fitness or strength is important to some, the fact is most of us simply want to get through a normal day with a little in reserve. That will allow you to then use your spare time to do what you want, rather than spend that time resting or recovering.
That is why our programs are focused on using functional exercises that replicate movements that you do throughout the day. Having the ability to sit, stand, squat, walk, jog, lift, push, pull and reach is what counts, not being able to push a heavy weight while sitting down! So we use a range of compound functional movements in our programs rather than getting you to do isolation exercises while sitting on a machine.
A focus on Coaching
We have a range of membership options that all have different levels of coaching and instruction built in. So if you have struggled to get the results you want in the past, we have a program to suit you and you will be amazed at what is possible with the right support!
To help new members ease into things, we have a beginner friendly circuit gym where you can exercise in a private room while you are just starting out. But we are confident that after a while you will be comfortable using all areas of the club and feel right at home. But we want to make your first few weeks as comfortable as possible.
While we think our equipment is great, it is the support, motivation and instruction provided by our Personal Trainers that is the real benefit of joining Oceana. Our team of trainers are here to help you to learn how to exercise safely and effectively and we really do care about our members.
The key thing we ask you to focus on at the beginning is to develop a habit of regular attendance. Putting the time aside and making sure you get here regularly will ensure that you get the most value out of your membership.
We will also do a program update very 12 weeks to make sure that your exercises change as your fitness and strength levels improve. And you will be pleasantly surprised at how quickly you can improve your fitness in the early stages.
