About Us

Oceana Health & Fitness was opened for business in November 1996. It was a partnership between founding  Directors Dean Ewington & Mark Blake.

The business was an amalgamation of Dean’s rehabilitation consultancy Fitness Solutions, and Mark’s swimming school, Swimfun.

Dean Ewington continues in his role as Managing Director, while Mark  is no longer a partner in the business and is now living in Mooloolaba QLD. He is still involved in the fitness industry and keeps in touch with all of us at Oceana and around Hobart where  his family still live.

Dean & his wife Jacki have been working together at Oceana since day one. Jacki has worked in the industry for nearly 25 years and Dean for 20.  Jacki is currently the  Membership Services Manager.

The centre cost  $2.5 million to build and is one of the largest privately built and owned health clubs in the country. Since opening, Oceana has serviced the needs of the eastern shore as well as many other people who travel from all over Hobart to get access to the services and programs available.

Most Awarded Centre

Oceana Health & Fitness was a category  winner  in the 1999 Telstra Tasmanian Government Small Business of the Year awards. We won the Business Owner award for  businesses with less than 50 employees. We have also won awards from Business East for customer service.

The Telstra Small Business Award  was quite a remarkable achievement as Oceana Health & Fitness was the first health club to win an award in any state and occurred after only 2 and a half years of trading.

We have continued to strive to improve the business and continue to reinvest in the facility with regular upgrades of equipment and new programs being introduced all the time.

Dean was also a winner of the  Tasmanian Chamber of Commerce & Industry Business Leader Awards. He was successful in the Owner Manager of the Year category in May 2009.

Community

We are committed to helping reduce the spiralling health care costs that we see in the community.  We donate thousands of dollars worth of time and product to help a range of charity, sports and school groups who seek our assistance with sponsorship.

We are  major sponsors of Lauderdale Football Club and Clarence Little Athletics.

We also sponsor many local schools with donations for fund raising days as well as many local charities.
